The envelope containing this printed announcement has been preserved. On the front is the postmark ‘AMSTERDAM / 18 / APRIL / 89’ over a 2½ cent stamp, and on the back ‘ARLES / BOUCHES DU RHONE / 1E | 20 / AVRIL / 89’. Printed under the flap sealing the envelope: ‘J. Collot, Colomier, Succr 38-40. Passage Jouffroy – Paris’. It is addressed to ‘Monsieur Vincent van Gogh/ à l’hospice/ d’Arles (Bouches du Rhône)/ (France)’.
