From: Vincent van Gogh
To: Theo van Gogh
Date: The Hague, on or about Monday, 7 May 1883
Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum, inv. no. b306 V/1962
Van Gogh writes that he has arranged with Van der Weele to go painting together ‘next week’ (l. 16). Assuming that this arrangement was agreed during Van Gogh’s visit to Van der Weele’s studio on Sunday, 6 May (see letter 341), the letter must date from later that day or shortly after it. Because he is fairly desperate and is counting on help even before the second remittance of on or about 10 May (ll. 13-14), we date the letter on or about Monday, 7 May 1883.
