Date
Letter headed: ‘Zondag’. Van Gogh is ‘desperately short of money’ (l. 19), he hopes that Theo’s ‘pockets aren’t too empty’ and that he will write as soon as possible (ll. 46-48). So he wants to urge Theo to send the second monthly remittance in good time (which he duly did; see letter 272). The letter is a continuation of 270 of on or about Sunday, 1 October, as is shown by ll. 9-10 and ll. 16-17. The Sunday in question would thus have been Sunday, 8 October 1882.
