Additional
Hulsker assumed that this letter to Théophile Peyron, medical director of the asylum in Saint-Rémy, was addressed to Theo van Gogh (see Hulsker 1993-2, pp. 176-179). We think, however, that it was intended for Vincent. It is the answer to the letter in which Vincent proposes to give the orderlies 10 francs (see letter 891). Moreover, the remarks about the addressee’s good health (ll. 13-20) and the success Peyron hoped he would have at exhibitions (ll. 21-25) must be addressed to Vincent.
